Australia's most famous building the Sydney Opera House was formally opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1983.  Acclaimed throughout the world, this great modernist masterpiece was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon, who was awarded the project in 1957 by an international jury.  After his resignation from the project in 1966, Utzon returned in 1999 to restore the interior to his original vision.  In 2003, Utzon received the Pritzker Prize, Architecture's highest honour.  The Sydney Opera House was inscribed on the National Heritage List in 2005 and on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007 as "a masterpiece of the 20th Century Architecture".
