A once-in-a-generational talent and arguably one of the greatest to ever play the game, Lance “Buddy” Franklin has, for well over a decade, left fans constantly in awe of his sheer athleticism, hunger for the contest and lethal left boot. His unique kicking ability defies logic and has been the driving force to him becoming one of the most prolific goal-kickers of the modern era. The Western-Australia-born superstar first caught the eye of the AFL world after being drafted by Hawthorn with the fifth overall selection in the 2005 AFL National Draft. In the 17 seasons and more than 300 games since that Draft, Franklin has showcased moments of pure brilliance that will forever hold a special place in the hearts and minds of the footballing community.

Over the duration of his illustrious career, Franklin has – thus far – been an eight-time All-Australian, four-time Coleman Medallist, two-time Premiership player, an All-Australian Captain and a Peter Crimmins Medallist, in a decorated career that has spanned across both the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn Football Club. All supporters of our great game have eagerly awaited Buddy’s entry to the “1,000 Club”, which places him amongst the likes of Coventry, Wade, Dunstall, Lockett and Ablett and makes him the sixth player and first Indigenous Australian in VFL/AFL history to join the prestigious Club. In reaching the colossal milestone, Franklin’s legacy is one of legend, not only in the sense of being a player of unparalleled ability but also considering his significant contribution as a role model of inspiration in the Australian community.
