2024 $1 Australia in Space - Out of this World Silver 'C' Mintmark Proof Coin - King Charles III Effigy

The Royal Australian Mint is proud to collaborate with the Australian Space Agency on the Out of this World - Australia in Space Coin Program.  The Agency is the heart of space programs in Australia, working across government, industry and academia to advance Australia's position in the global space economy.  Australia has several advantages that make us a great place to be involved with space programs.  Areas in which Australia has a competitive edge or strategic interest are many and varied, including positioning, navigation and timing; earth observation, communications thechnologies and services and much more.

Two Australian-born US Citizens, Dr. Paul Scully-Power and Dr. Andrew Thomas, have made spaceflights as NASA Astronauts... but there's yet to be an Aussie woman in space, or anyone fly under the Australian Flag.  Katherine Bennell-Pegg, from the Australian Space Agency, has trained at the European Astronaut Centre as an Australian.  Basic Astronaut training qualifies you to go to the International Space Station.   Watch this space!!!

This Silver coin's reverse design depicts a stylised scene featuring an Australian Astronaut exploring space and with an insert paying homage to WRESAT-1, Australia's first satellite and a 'C' Mintmark.

The coin's obverse features the Effigy of King Charles III Designed by Daniel Thorme.
